Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request under its own practices. We do not retain a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be kept long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It is not disclosed outside our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may record routine technical facts about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- Pages viewed and approximate visit duration
- Referring website, when available
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and outside analytics services help measure aggregate traffic, popular pages, and navigation patterns. Browser controls can reject or remove cookies, although some features may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a submitted search to the selected partner
- Maintaining reliable and responsive pages
- Diagnosing performance or security problems
- Measuring which information visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Pocahontas County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It explains how to reach the sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa DCI repository, and Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a criminal record about another person. This resource is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their own privacy terms govern information submitted through a tool, including retention and disclosure choices beyond our control. Review the named provider's policy before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Pocahontas County offices, Iowa agencies, court portals, legal resources, or outside search providers. Once a visitor leaves this resource, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read those terms before giving it personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring site traffic and performance
- Search partners receiving a query through their tool
- Advertising networks serving content on these pages
- Government authorities acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards protect collected data. No internet system is completely secure, so those measures cannot guarantee that an unauthorized event will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. A verified report that a minor supplied such data will be addressed by deleting it.
Your Data Rights
Subject to its scope and exemptions, Iowa Code chapter 715D provides consumer data rights. Iowa Code chapters 22 and 692 separately govern access to government records and state criminal-history data. A visitor may ask to:
- Confirm whether covered personal data is processed
- Obtain a copy where the law applies
- Correct or delete eligible information
- Exercise an applicable opt-out right
Updates to This Policy
An amended policy becomes available on this page with a revised effective date. Reviewing the current version is the best way to track changes in these practices.
